And the PayStream Healthcare Summit Excellence Award Goes to...
Posted On December 8, 2010 by Brad Josephson
Well, we couldn't choose just one. We were so impressed with the caliber of this year's nominees that we handed out the hardware to three healthcare organizations. The awards were voted upon by our Advisory Board and chosen based on the organization's level of innovation and contribution to the industry. The winners were recognized at a luncheon among nearly 150 fellow accounts payable and supply chain healthcare professionals during the PayStream Healthcare Summit. The envelope, please... Mayo Clinic First up to the podium was Mayo Clinic, the first and largest integrated, not-for-profit group practice in the world. Their philosophy is "the needs of the patient come first" and their procure to pay operation is evidence of that. Their statistics are impressive on paper, but they would probably prefer to tell you their story electronically, the format they use for 97 percent of their invoices. Accepting for Mayo was Procurement Manager Dan Schmitz, who shared their story during the opening panel discussion of the PayStream Healthcare Summit. Bon Secours Health System The next award was given to the organization who demonstrated superior leadership in the field of ePayables. In fact, our Advisory Board was so impressed with their transformation that we added this award to recognize them. Joel Stafford, Director of Central Accounts Payable & Facilities accepted the award for Bon Secours, which translates to "good help" in French. Joel and his team decided to help out the AP department by developing a plan to extract line information and simplify the matching process by building matching rules into the validation process. Six months ago, they had six people performing PO matching. Today, they need only one person doing the same to process their 20,000 monthly invoices. UPMC Last, but certainly not least, is UPMC, a global health enterprise who uses innovative science, technology, and medicine to invent new models of accountable, cost-efficient, and patient-centered care. Their accounts payable team is certainly no exception to this, choosing to implement their new AP automation project internally through existing technology. Similar to the other recipients, they are nearly a completely paperless environment, qualifying them to win the award for AP automation. Congratulations to these healthcare organizations for setting the bar so high in 2010. Who else has taken their accounts payable and supply chain processes to a new level? It's never too early to start taking nominations for next year.
