Source-to-Settle Innovators Join Forces to Become Determine

Last week, PayStream Advisors sat down with an exciting group of leaders in the Source-to-Settle software space. These were representatives from Selectica and Selectica’s sister companies, Iasta and b-pack. Formerly three individual providers of cloud-based contract management, sourcing, supplier management, and procure-to-pay solutions, the companies have now joined forces: Iasta was acquired by Selectica in June, 2014; b-pack in July of 2015.

This meeting was atypical for our analyst sessions in that the main focus wasn’t to see what the companies offer in terms of solution features and functions. Instead, we gathered to hear about their vision in terms of Source-to-Settle value for back-office process efficiency.

As of today, the three providers are officially unified, under the name Determine, as a new Source-to-Settle platform for enterprise companies of all sizes and industries. “This partnership has been a while in the making and it is more than just rebranding,” according to their Director of Product Marketing, Constantine Limberakis. “It is about taking the leading components of each individual company’s solution and blending them into one, streamlined, optimal product line.”

In a press release, Patrick Stakenas, President and Chief Executive Officer at Determine, expressed his excitement about the venture. “The new Determine brand perfectly encapsulates the business and M&A strategy that we’ve been successfully executing over the last two years. Customers will now have access to the enormous potential created by the deep synergies, innovations, capabilities, and experience of the three combined entities.”

Even though our main conversation was around some of these innovations and capabilities, we did get a glimpse of a few of Determine’s products, including those available before (from the three individual companies) and after the acquisition. We were satisfied with their offerings—it’s a solid set individually and an even stronger one together, with several advanced features in sourcing, procurement, and contract management solutions in particular. We’re looking forward to taking a closer look at the platform in its fully re-launched mode soon.

In all, we think that Determine has some great potential. With very little overlap, the union benefits Selectica, Iasta, and b-pack in that the strengths of one of their solutions can make up for the weaknesses of another. It also benefits the three companies’ existing and future customers, as these clients now have access to a power-house offering of technology and services that is based on the market experience of not one, but three industry veterans.
